Taylor Swift buys masters to her first six albums

(MENAFN) American pop star Taylor Swift revealed on Friday that she has finally gained ownership of her entire music catalog.

"I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening," Swift shared in a handwritten note she posted on her website.

"I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made...now belongs...to me," she continued, referencing the lyrics from her hit single "You Belong With Me."

She went on to list everything she now owns: "All my music videos. All my concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life's work."

Swift explained that she had repurchased the rights to her first six albums, which were originally released through Big Machine Records. For years, she had been at the center of a high-profile dispute over the rights to her music, sparked after her former music manager, Scooter Braun, acquired and later sold her early song catalog. This ownership battle had restricted her access to her own creations and how they could be used.

"To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it," said Swift. "All I've ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy."

To avoid conflicts over music rights, Swift had begun re-recording her earlier albums to regain control of her songs. Prior to Friday’s announcement, she had successfully re-recorded four of her first six albums before striking a deal with the catalog’s most recent owner, Shamrock Capital, to reclaim full ownership of all her music.

In her letter, Swift acknowledged her fans (281 million Instagram followers) as the reason she managed to reclaim her entire music catalog.

"To my fans, you know how important this has been to me - so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums calling them Taylor's Version," Swift wrote. "The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music."

"I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned it until now."
